Future Spaces Foundation Competition MAKE Architects
The brief for the student design competition was to create a design that would bring nature into the urban environment in 2035. Additionally, each design team had to respond to a given theme. Our theme was intergenerational and in response to that we designed modular floating tea islands with play areas in Canary Wharf.
The islands bring together the traditions pertaining to various tea cultures and playgrounds curated for both children and adults thus creating an inclusive environment for all generations.
I designed the Japanese island features a tea pavilion and bouncy, soft play landscape. The landscape has multiple attractions that cater to all generations. Trampolines and soft mounds can be used by energetic children as well as the elderly who can use it for low impact exercises meant to improve balance and mobility, and strengthen muscles.
